New record year for White-tailed Eagle in Germany
February 13th, 2008The White-tailed Eagle goes from strength to strength in Germany. In 2006 about 530 breeding pairs were recorded in Germany. This year is even better. The Naturschutzbund Deutschland (Birdlife Germany) just announced that in 2007 about 575 pairs were recorded. This is another increase and the highest population in Germany since many decades.
The White-tailed Eagle is my favorite bird. I hope that the German population reaches 1.000 pairs in the future. So far it looks very good.

Thanks for your comments on my blog! I used to live in Germany but I never saw any White Tailed Eagles……..do they get any near Munich?
Glad to hear they’re increasing.

Stu, the White-tailed Eagles are still a very rare sight near Munich (I live near Munich).
There is now a new pair at lake Chiemsee, which I hope will be breeding for the first time there this year.
There is a second pair about 140km to the northwest of Munich which has already raised 4 young eagles during the last two years.
Sometimes wintering birds can be seen around Munich. I expect the Bavarian population to grow in the next years, so they should become a more common sight in southern Bavaria.
